Responsibility — Lowering our ecological footprint
Lowering our ecological footprint
SDG 13
In 2022 we recorded our first carbon footprint. This was an important step, which helped us identify our main impacts and gave us insights into how data can guide us in setting priorities and targets. In 2023, we refined this exercise with more precise data, giving us a more complete view of our carbon footprint. By 2024, we further professionalised the way we calculate our carbon footprint: introducing new software, implementing a more rigorous data collection process and shifting from a collection-based to an invoice-based methodology. This new approach provides a more detailed dataset, avoids accidental double counting, and ensures more accurate and reliable results. Although the transition temporarily increased our reported emissions, it has established a new and more robust baseline.
When developing our strategy, we recognise that a range of external factors can significantly influence our carbon footprint. Geopolitical disruptions affect transport options, while limitations on material availability or minimum order quantities can restrict material choices. Product design and technical requirements also determine the distribution of production between our different global partners, again affecting transport emissions. These variables all influence our decisions and affect the final footprint.
With our new, clearly established baseline and improved methodology, we now have a strong foundation for our five-year strategy. Building on lessons learned over recent years, we aim to combine clarity and flexibility in our next five-year plan, focusing on comprehensive climate action and identifying the areas where we can make the greatest impact in reducing our emissions.
