We’re loving the dynamic at the Hartenstraat store. What is it like to work at Essentiel Antwerp?

Naomy — For me, working at Essentiel Antwerp means being able to be myself 200%. I say 200% because I feel like there’s always an extra touch. The collection, the love from my team and other stores and not to forget the support from HQ. I have worked in fashion stores for almost 15 years now and I have only found this extra touch at Essentiel Antwerp. This makes my job not only the most fun, but it also makes it very easy for me to spread the love.

Jessie — Working at Essentiel Antwerp really feels like a small family working together. Everybody at the office and in the stores is very passionate about what they do, and you feel that from the inside out.

What’s your most memorable anecdote?

Jessie — One of my personal favorites is that one time when a customer from Abu Dhabi especially came to Amsterdam to visit our store to surprise his nieces and aunts, who are a big fan of our brand. He decided to buy them presents to celebrate the end of the Ramadan. Within 20 minutes, he left with almost all our accessories and took his Uber back to Schiphol. I just couldn’t believe he went through all the effort.

Elize — A very special moment for me was when I was able to help a customer choose a beautiful dress for her wedding. When we found the perfect dress, she brought champagne to celebrate. I felt very honored to be part of that moment. Such customers give me a lot of energy, they make my job more fun, and I appreciate that so much.

How would you describe Essentiel Antwerp?

Naomy — Feminine, fashionable, fun, and really important, comfortable! Our clothes give you the bit of sparkle every woman needs. I hear a lot of people say our collections are like a candy store: everything looks good, and you want it all!

Valerie — Every season, we bring colorful and unique collections of clothing and accessories. It’s a great brand to work for with a lot of good vibes and our customers feel that immediately when they enter our store.

What’s your personal style and how does it match the DNA of Essentiel Antwerp?

Naomy — Ever since I was little, I was always overdressed, even for living in Amsterdam. At Essentiel Antwerp the word ‘overdressed’ doesn’t exist. Everything is possible and nothing is too much. Most of the time I go for oversized shirts with wide pants. But I also love our long dresses in vibrant colors.

Jessie — My personal style is a combination of timeless classics combined with a lot of influences of contemporary streetwear and bold accessories or bags. It’s all in the little details! My style matches really well with Essentiel Antwerp’s classic silhouettes taken to the next level with a crazy print or bold color combo.

Valerie — My personal style is ‘classic-feminine’. I like to combine basics with key pieces. Essentiel Antwerp is so versatile — it is a match made in heaven (laugh).

Elize — My personal style is cool and casual. But one characteristic of my style is that my outfit always has to have a touch of color, something that makes me stand out. Luckily, that’s exactly what I can find at Essentiel Antwerp.

What are your favorites of this Summer 2021 collection?

Naomy — The versatile ZUWU dress: you can wear this dress to the beach, going out for lunch or at a wedding. And of course, the ZEATHER brooch! This makes every outfit complete, wear it on a basic T-shirt or on a fabulous dress and you’re ready for anything.

Jessie — My personal favorites are the ZOLE shirts, you can combine these tropical printed shirts with any summer staple. It is the perfect balance in between laidback and chic. I also love all the ZEATHER brooches. Wear them to spice up any outfit and you’re ready for the first party after the lockdown!

Valerie — The new Pink Pill collection. I am in love with the organic cotton sweaters, T-shirts, sweatpants, and baseball caps with an Essentiel Antwerp twist. It’s the perfect basic.

Elize — The ZURCUMA dress is my favorite item because you can wear it for any occasion. It’s a very easy dress that you can take anywhere and combine with everything.

Where do you see the match between Essentiel Antwerp and the Netherlands?

Jessie — We offer a unique mix of colors, fabrics and prints to the Dutch women and they come to us to create an eclectic and fun look.

Tell us a bit more about De 9 Straatjes quartier you’re located?

Naomy — It’s a real shopping walhalla. It has the romantic authentic Amsterdam feeling. The small boutiques and coffee hotspots between the canals make it feel different from any other city in the world. If you ask the typical “Amsterdammer” where they like to shop, they will say De Negen Straatjes.

We look forward to your insider tips of the city of Amsterdam. Can you give us the city’s cultural hotspots?

Naomy — Amsterdam is famous for its museums. My favorite is the Rijksmuseum. I also love the Tropenmuseum: it has a different theme every few months and enriches your mind with other beautiful cultures from all over the world.

Jessie — If you are in Amsterdam, it is worth the time to visit the Jordaan area. It is full of the city’s typical “bruine cafés” (brown cafes). A great spot to enjoy a drink and a typical Dutch “bitterbal” and watch local people stroll by, and exploring the city on the beloved Dutch bike is a must!

Valerie — A great way to experience the city in a relaxed atmosphere is by renting a boat and having a picknick while cruising the canals of Amsterdam. For local and authentic food from Holland, the Albert Cuyp Market is the place to be. And you cannot miss a shopping spree in De Negen Straatjes.

Elize — I usually go to cultural hotspots for younger people, such as Moco Museum, The Upside Down, WONDR Experience and Youseum. These are all museums where you can also take beautiful photos or videos for Instagram. The exhibitions are very colorful, just like Essentiel Antwerp.

As restaurants just reopened, spending a night out on a terrace is all we can think about. Which restaurants can you recommend?

Naomy — Although I love all kinds of food, I’m a real sweet tooth and I prefer desserts. Two of my favorite places to get a dessert are the cookie shop van Stapele & the tearoom Pompadour.

Jessie — I love restaurant de Kas for the finest Mediterranean dining experience right from their local greenhouse. Taiko Cuisine & Bar at the Conservatorium hotel has the best nine course experimental Asian fusion experience. And finally, Mata Hari for a high-value-for-your-money dinner in a super unique location: right in the central of the red-light district.

Valerie — My favorites are: Brasserie Van Dam, George, The Dylan, Louie Louie, Morgan & Mees, Pause at Pulitzer, Harbour Club and Five Brothers Fat.

Elize — My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam is George, you can go there for any occasion. I even like to study there with a nice coffee. Het Paardje or de Tulp are always nice for a drink.
